These days that we’re living in are so crazy and unpredictable. It’s always a shame when something as fun and relaxing as a pool party can’t be enjoyed because of ignorance and evil.
Saturday, three were killed and one was injured at a pool party at an off-campus apartment complex in Auburn, Ala. after an argument over a woman escalated. All the victims of the shooting were the same age - 20. Two of the victims, Edward Christian and Ladarious Phillips, were former members of Auburn’s football team. The third victim, Demario Pitts, was not.
Eric Mack, also 20 and a current member of the Auburn football team, was transported to the hospital for his injuries.
The suspect was identified as 22-year-old Desmonte Leonard of Montgomery, Ala. He reportedly fled the scene of the crime in a white Chevrolet Caprice with two other men.
Police received a call around 10:03 p.m. Saturday and Christian was pronounced dead at the scene. The other two victims died at the hospital. A fifth victim was treated and released and the sixth victim was transported to a local hospital with a gunshot wound to the head and as of Sunday remained in critical condition.
Players, coaches and friends have expressed their shock and sympathy on Twitter.
