When you hear the saying, “having a child will change your life,” believe it. Actually, it’s an understatement. Becoming a mom has changed every single thing in my life - even down to the car I have.
I’m currently driving a 2009 Ford Mustang. I got it during the Summer of 2008 when I was a sophomore in college and it was a gift from my Dad. I wanted a Mustang for as long as I could remember and I jumped up and down in the car lot like a little kid when they drove it around the front and told me it was mine. That was a day I’ll never forget.
Unfortunately, although I still have a special place in my heart for Mustangs, mine simply does not work for my lifestyle anymore.
I’m four months into the #momlife game and I’ve just about lost all my patience with having a two-door vehicle. My son isn’t heavy but combined with his carseat, it’s a huge weight lugging him in and out of the car. Not only that, when he’s in the car, my passenger has to sit close to the dashboard and if they’re tall…God bless their knees during the ride. I’d also like to be able to leave Marley’s car seat in the car and just carry him in and out but having a two-door makes that a chore.
So, I really need a new car.
I’m not really in the market yet (because…finances) but I will be by the end of the year, hopefully sooner. I plan to spend the next several months saving, researching and test driving vehicles. I’ve never made a purchase this big, the biggest purchase I’ve ever made was for furniture, so I want to have all my ducks in a row before I sign on the dotted line.
With that being said, I’ll be looking for very specific vehicle features that I know all moms would appreciate. Check them out below!
Keyless Entry
I’m always fishing through my overly-stuffed pursed looking for car keys and Tony is always leaving them in the car. Therefore I’d love to have a vehicle that will allow us to enter without actually needing a key. This will also come in handy if Marley or any kid gets locked in the car.
Spyglass
I already use a backseat mirror because Marley’s car seat is currently a rear-facing one but soon he’ll be in a seat that will be front-facing and I’d still like to be able to see him. A spyglass on top of the rearview mirror would be so perfect!
Motion Sensing Liftgate
We all know how difficult getting groceries into the car is and imagine a screaming child in your arms! I would love to have a vehicle that has a motion sensing liftgate/hatchback to make transporting items easier.
Power Outlet
This is great for kids but even better for moms. A car with a power outlet is perfect because we all know how quickly phone batteries die these days. I also attend meetings throughout the day and being able to charge my laptop in my car would save me lots of headaches!
I’m using Cars.com to narrow down my selections and I can’t wait to start test driving new cars and share my experiences with you. I’m going to use the Search feature to find dealerships in my area and go from there. Any other features I should be looking for? Let me know in the comment section!
