Ever been to a ghetto fabulous yoga session?
Power of Your Om Yoga Studio in Santa Barbara, California recently hosted a “Ghetto Fabulous” yoga class. To prepare for the class, studio workers told students to wear cornrows, heavy lip liner and snapback hats. The studio even linked a WikiHow article called “How To Be Ghetto Fabulous” to provide inspiration.
People have expressed their outrage over the session on the studio’s Facebook page where the event photo was posted along with the caption “It ain’t no fun, if the homies can’t have none.”
The owner of the studio, Adrienne Hengal, issued a public apology for the class:
“Thank you all for the eye-opening discussion and I do apologize for offending anyone – those of you that commented, emailed, and anyone else for that matter. The class happened and we are doing other themed classes in the future that may include various types of music/genres and we have made note to focus on the music versus singling out any group of human beings that has the potential to offend others as that was not the intention. I can see how it could be offensive and we do apologize for offending you or anyone.”
I’m still trying to figure out how that theme was even approved. SMH!
