Why I’m No Longer Posting Certain Content On This Website

Hi! *waves*

I don’t think I’ve ever written a personal note on this website. If I have, it had to be a very long time ago. Anyway, I’ve been doing some thinking and the conclusions I’ve come to have forced me to write this note. Many of you more than likely don’t follow me on social media (but you can! Click the links to do so: Twitter, Instagram (Personal), Instagram (for this blog), Pinterest, YouTube, Facebook) so to me, this was the best way to make the “announcement.”

When I first started this website, I didn’t necessarily know how things would turn out but I knew what direction I didn’t want to go in…if that makes sense. I knew that I wanted to write about celebrities and entertainment but I never wanted to be a gossip blog. I wanted to leave room to write pieces that would make you think, give you a little positivity in a world full of constant bad news, make you want to be a better person and a better mate/spouse…I want this to be a place that you will visit over and over again.

The problem is, more people want to consume junk than they want to consume something positive. It’s baffling to me! My blog grew and my stats skyrocketed as and when I posted gossip and reality TV episodes (even the shows I don’t watch myself) and because pageviews and stats are how I make money and how I’m able to care for myself and secure other opportunities, I started to provide more and more of the junk just to keep my numbers high. But then I noticed two things:

1. People were only visiting this website to watch the episodes and

2. I was beginning to become a sell out.

I was feeding the beast by continuing to post episodes of shows that I didn’t agree with. I wasn’t posting the original stories that I love to write about and blogging was beginning to feel like a chore. My creativity was suffering and people were ignoring the stories that were more interesting because they only came here for the junk.

Like any entrepreneur, I have to make executive decisions that people will not always agree with but I know will be right for me in the long run. With that said, I’ll no longer be posting certain content on my website. The bloggers that I’m patterning myself off of don’t, so there’s no need for me to do so. There are tons of places you can visit for reality television episodes and gossip news and I’m sure they’ll be happy that one less blog is competing with them. I just have to practice what I preach and not perpetuate the very stereotypes and notions that I work so hard, personally and professionally, to dispel.

You’ll still be able to get your celebrity news fix here as well as your breaking news and every now and then a little gossip but ya’ll, I just cannot continue to spread the ignorance of the Love & Hip Hops and all the other foolishness that VH1 and other networks are feeding to the public. I just can’t. Those things don’t interest me anymore and writing about them is killing my creativity and love for writing. That’s not gonna work!

I hope that you’ll continue reading JessicaSimien.com and sharing our work with your friends but if not, I understand. No hard feelings here! :)
