We live in the age of reality television. We get so wrapped up in reality TV that we forget about our own realities.
We follow celebs on social sites, emulate the latest fashion gurus, and feed on the latest scandals on the TV shows. Is this life? So much of what we see in the media is invaluable with little to no substance. I’ll be honest, I indulge in a bit of it all myself. But, my reality is that these things aren’t my reality. Private jets and extravagant shopping sprees aren’t in my plans this week.
There’s a verse is the Holy Bible that says: “Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” (Matthew 6:21 CEB)
It’s evident that we’ve come to value money and possessions more than we value people. Are our hearts stuck on gaining worldly possessions, partying, gloating and “turning up”? And as and when these things pass away, what’s left?
I think I’ve said it once but I’ll say it again – the life you live is the sermon you preach. Your daily walk is your reality show. What are you showing the world? Are you showing the world cars, clothes, money and riches? Or are you showing love, respect, humanity or humbleness?
There’s another verse in the Holy Bible that says: “You were called to freedom, brothers and sisters; only don’t let this freedom be an opportunity to indulge your selfish impulses, but serve each other through love.” (Galatians 5:13 CEB)
Make your own reality show! Make it about love! It’s okay to have things. I want a souped up Audi! This would be a great gift to myself after I’ve reached a certain milestone in my life. But the positive impact I can have on someone’s life will birth a greater reward. And even if I never get my Audi, serving others will always suffice.
So what’s your reality? Does it have substance?
If not… Change it.
This is a casting call for a reality show! I’m looking for the next big heart. The person willing to serve and be a light! The next goal digger!
Keep pressing and show the world substance!
