(VIDEO) #ToBeHonest Episode 2: There’s No Place Like Mississippi

We’re back with another episode of my new YouTube talk show series, #ToBeHonest. This week we’re tackling a somewhat touchy topic – the State of Mississippi.

One of the reasons (if not the main reason) I created this series was to give Mississippi an alternative image. Whenever Mississippi and those of us who reside here are depicted in the media, it’s always in a negative light. Our worst and dirtiest news is always being aired. As a public relations practitioner and in my humble opinion, Mississippi needs some major PR.

That’s where #ToBeHonest comes in.

Believe it our not, there are some brilliant minds here in Mississippi. Our cast is comprised of entrepreneurs, soon-to-be doctors, media personalities, music artists and your everyday professionals and that doesn’t even scratch the surface of the talent that Mississippi has to offer. Voices like those of our cast members and all of our collective accomplishments get lost as and when all the coverage about Mississippi revolves around issues like the Confederate flag controversy or how we’re last in all of the great things and first in all of the not-so-great things.

We desperately want people to know that Mississippi is so much more than our past and we have a bright future. Although we don’t all agree on the methods and everyone isn’t committed to making Mississippi better, it’s home for us all and we represent it well.
