Duluth High School senior, Sam McNair, has been suspended for one year and will not graduate on time for hugging a teacher last month.
The 17-year-old football star was suspended last week as and when Gwinnett County Public Schools officials decided that he’d violated the district’s policy on bad wordual harassment for the hug he gave his teacher that was caught on camera.
The video shows McNair placing his arms around the back and front of the teacher, with his head behind her neck. According to reports, the teacher claims that McNair’s cheeks and lips touched the back of her neck and cheek.
McNair has denied that he bad wordually harassed the teacher and says that he did not kiss her. He also went on to say that he hugs his teachers on a regular basis and was not told that they were inappropriate or disciplined for doing so.
His mother, April McNair, is upset about his suspension and believes the school district should have informed her if his hugging had become problematic before suspending him and interfering with his college plans. She said:
“He’s a senior. He plays football and was getting ready for lacrosse and you’re stripping him of even getting a full scholarship for athletics for college.”
