(VIDEO) Nina Pham, First Nurse To Be Diagnosed With Ebola, Speaks From Hospital Room

Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas has released a video of 26-year-old Nina Pham, the first person to contract Ebola in the United States. The video opens up with her physician, Dr. Gary Weinstein, thanking Nina for being part of the team who helped treat Thomas Eric Duncan, the first Ebola patient to pass away from the virus in the U.S.

Pham is seen in her hospital bed, looking rather healthy and upbeat in my opinion, with another health care worker in the room clad in protective clothing. She jokes about being transported to Maryland and tells her coworkers to come along with her before shedding tears.

Pham boarded a G-3 jet at Dallas Love Field to fly to one of the nation’s few hospitals with a special isolation unit for Ebola treatment. She is one of two nurses who contracted the virus after caring for Duncan.  Amber Vinson is currently being treated at Atlanta’s Emory University Hospital.

My guess is that the hospital released the video to ease the public’s concern about the virus, with all the conspiracy theories going around. Regardless, I’m happy that she is doing well and I hope both nurses survive this illness.
