This summer heat and sun is FRYING my natural hair, do you hear me? (Wait…it’s not even summer yet!!! Lord help my hair!)
At work, I sit in front of a glass window and just as the sun is hitting its high point for the day, I can put my hands in my hair and feel the heat.
I get really upset about it because I don’t want to get any sun damage on my skin or in my hair.
I decided that I would find a product that would really moisturize my hair and give it shine as well. I can’t carry a spray bottle in my purse, so the next best thing would be some creamy type product.
This whole dry hair situation takes me back to last summer as and when I did my big chop.
I co-washed (washing with conditioner only) my hair every single day, sometimes twice a day depending on the dryness, because the sun and heat drained every ounce of moisture my hair had. Now with my hair being colored, its even more important to keep is moisturized.
So, I went to Target and bought two new products by Shea Moisture: Curl Enhancing Smoothie and the Hold & Shine Moisture Mist. I chose these products for a couple of reasons. I have been wanting to try Shea Moisture’s products because the packaging was cute (I know, what a great reason LOL) and they offer so many products for all types of hair…it just seemed like they would do what I needed them to do for my hair.
Because I have thick, wavy hair I wanted to go with something that catered to that. I chose the Curl Enhancing Smoothie because it is creamy, it smells great and is designed to restore moisture, reduce frizz and enhance your curls. I do a LOT of twist-outs and I know that my twist-outs will benefit from this. The product was very rich and you don’t need to use a lot of it. It didn’t flake up on my hair, but then again I applied it to dry hair (I only dampened the ends).
I chose the Hold & Shine Moisture Mist to refresh my hair throughout the day. My plan is to keep it in my purse LOL.
It is important to understand that products do not make curls, they only enhance the curls you already have.
So if you hair isn’t curly or wavy, there is a possibility that the Curl Enhancing Smoothie may not work for you.
The CES helped with my ends. I like for my ends to be curled and because I style my hair while its dry, that doesn’t always happen.
I love these products and will probably be experimenting with more from the Shea Moisture line. Cantu’s products have been working great for me, but I do want to change things up a bit. I think I’ll always use their leave-in conditioner, but I want to try some new shampoos and use more products designed specifically for natural hair.
