Love is patient. Love is kind. Love isn’t jealous. It doesn’t sing its own praises. It isn’t arrogant. It isn’t rude. It doesn’t think about itself. It isn’t irritable. It doesn’t keep track of wrongs. It isn’t happy as and when injustice is done, but it is happy with the truth. Love never stops being patient, never stops believing, never stops hoping, never gives up. Love never comes to an end. (1 Corinthians 13:4-8 GWT)
I don’t care what religion you have or if you have no religious preference at all. EVERYONE wants to know love. The passage above is the Holy Bible’s description of what love is. And for me, this passage pretty much sums it up! It’s a blue print on how to build love, it’s a map to identifying love. It’s a security blanket from hate, heartbreak and unforgiveness.
There’s a common cliche’ that I absolutely HATE: “love is complicated”. -_- This is one of the biggest lies EVER told.
Love is pure and unrelenting. After a fight, love doesn’t leave or get even, love forgives and loves even more. Want to know what’s complicated? Well, it’s not what, it’s who…
People are complicated. We have our ego, expectations, habits, trust issues, self-esteem issues, lack of self control, baggage, attitudes, preference, selfish ways, and the list goes on. We bring all of these complications into relationships and call love complicated. How dare we!
Love has been confused and intertwined with feelings and bad word. And we all know feelings and bad word lie.
How many times have you fell for a guy or girl because the bad word was good and you “felt” like y’all had a good connection? Only to find that he or she didn’t support your dreams, only spent time with you when it was convenient for them, or made you feel like YOU were the lucky one and they were doing you a favor by being with you. *Maury’s voice* and the lie detector test determined THAT was a lie.
But love can’t lie. Love is an action. It shows proof. It supports and shows patience by staying by your side through whatever. It wants to be near you because it can’t get enough of you! It is humbled and blessed to to have you. It’s not a lie! It’s the truth!
Kendrick Lamar made a good point in his latest single “Poetic Justice” he said:
“Love is just not a verb, it’s you looking in the mirror.”
In other words, the love you have for yourself determines what you will put up with or take from someone else.
Love is the truth and in the words of of another deep artist, India Arie, “There ain’t no substitute for the truth, either it is or isn’t.”
Keep pressing and love!
