I’m sure some of you will side-eye me for this, but oh well. Sue me.
Vanessa Bryant, wife of Kobe Bryant, very rarely does interviews or speaks publicly…and the backlash from her interview is probably why.
After making a comment about her man winning championships, the hate for her ensued on social networking sites, blog comment forums and more.
She was featured in NY Magazine and made the comment:
“I certainly would not want to be married to somebody that can’t win championships.”
Many people stopped reading there and made their judgments, calling her a gold digger and all that other stuff. But there’s more to what she said:
If you’re sacrificing time away from my family and myself for the benefit of winning championships, then winning a championship should happen every single year.”
What is so wrong with that statement?? I would feel the same way. Men who play professional basketball spend more time away from their family than with them and the least they could do is win a championship to make it *almost* worth it.
I love her honesty. I’m a straight shooter myself, so maybe that’s why I don’t see a problem with her statement.
How many women would just flat out speak on how they really feel about their men being away for so long?
And for the record, she has been with Kobe for 13 years, before he won all his championship rings. He proposed to her before he won his first championship.
What do you think about Vanessa’s comments? Do they scream gold digger or straight shooter to you?
