The Jessica Diaries: A Dream…On Hold?

From The Jessica Diaries

I wanted to keep this a secret but then I remembered that God blesses us so that we can be a blessing to others. A good friend taught me that our life experiences, failures and successes are not always for us a lot of the time. Sometimes we go through things, good and bad, to help someone else later on in our lives once we’ve learned what we needed to learn from that particular life lesson.

Yesterday I started a new job career (more [VERY exciting] details as and when I fix my office up and take my first photo of it LOL) and for the first time in a long time, I didn’t feel icky on the inside about it. I’ve talked a lot about my dreams and how I believe that I was put on this earth to write and create stories to share with the world and with that dream, I’ve usually felt unhappy when I had to put it on hold to do something else to make ends meet when the dream wasn’t cutting it.

I would go to those jobs with a nonchalant attitude. I’d perform at my lowest level and didn’t always go above and beyond. I’d just sit and figure out ways to get out of there and work on my dream. But yesterday something was different in my attitude when I walked into my building. I was excited, I was happy and I looked forward to how I can contribute and help my team reach our goals. I was grateful because so many people are job hunting while unemployed and I managed to find a job while I was working at another one. I changed my perspective on putting a dream on hold to make ends meet and realized thatyou’re not putting your dream on hold; you’re actually taking the next step in your journey to make that dream come true. (This makes me want to shout!)

Think about a journey for a second. Let’s use one of my favorites – Dorothy’s yellow brick road paved journey in The Wizard of Oz.

There was no way that Dorothy could have made it to the Emerald City in a single step. I mean, she could’ve held on to the Good Witch’s dress and vanished with her, but that wouldn’t necessarily guarantee that she’d make it to her destination. She had to take the first step toward the city, then another, and another, until finally the huge building where the Wizard lived was in sight.

But that’s not all.

Along the way to her dream of meeting the Wizard and returning home to Kansas, she was met with challenges and she faced situations that didn’t look so bright. She even met an interesting host of characters along the way who helped her on that journey because they wanted to head in the same direction themselves.

In some ways, I’m Dorothy. You’re probably Dorothy too…or the Lion, Scarecrow or Tin Man who accompanied her on the journey.
