It is so easy to focus on everything that is going wrong in our lives. We don’t have enough money to pay this bill, our relationships aren’t where we’d like them to be, we’ve been slaving at work and still haven’t seen that promotion or raise…and the list goes on.
I know that as and when we shift our perspective and focus on what is going right and what we do have, our lives become happier and we end up having more.
I was inspired to start doing this gratitude exercise after a little “breakdown” (for lack of a better word) I had yesterday. Being an aduItand taking care of yourself is very, very challenging and sometimes it can overwhelm even the strongest person. I often go without just to stay afloat. The struggle is definitely real.
I found that my worrying, crying and obsessing over all the bad stuff was only causing more of the bad stuff to happen. I was mentally telling myself that I couldn’t and wouldn’t be able to do those things and guess what – that is exactly what keeps happening.
I’m learning that our minds are the greatest asset we have. Our thoughts become things, whatever we focus on – whether good or bad – shows up in our lives. Therefore, I’m challenging myself to only focus on what I have and how thankful I am for it because Lord knows there is something out there doing way worse than I am.
So for today, here are three things I’m grateful for:
- My full-time job
- A roof over my head
- Shoes on my feet
