After Frank Ocean’s label decided to release channel Orange to iTunes ahead of its scheduled release date, Target has made the decision not to carry the album.
There are rumors that the retail chain’s refusal to carry the album stems from the announcement Ocean made revealing his love affair with another man.
Tuesday, Frank Ocean’s manager, Christian Clancy, tweeted:
Target has refused to carry Frank’s album because of iTunes exclusive. Interesting since they also donate to non-equal rights organizations.
He later apoologized for his statement and advised those who cannot purchase via iTunes to get the album at a nearby Best Buy store.
In the past, Target cancelled a television campaign for Lady Gaga’s Born This Way album alledgedly due to differences in ideology and lent its support to political candidates who oppose gay rights, according to BET.
