NY Daily is reporting that a 44-year-old Spanish nurse contracted Ebola while caring for an ill priest in Madrid.
The unidentified woman was hospitalized Sunday and diagnosed Monday, a week after she began showing signs of the disease and more than 12 days after she likely contracted the disease while treating Manuel Garcia Viejo, who died Sept. 25 in Madrid after contracting Ebola while on a missionary trip in Sierra Leone.
The woman had changed his diapers and removed infected materials from his room after he died, which is likely how she contracted the virus. She had also been in close contact with another priest infected with Ebola who died at the hospital in August.
Health officials hospitalized a second nurse and man who arrived in Madrid from Nigeria and are monitoring another 50 people who came in contact with the woman.
The diagnosed nurse is in stable condition.
