Fans all over the country flocked to their local theaters to catch the premiere of the new Batman movie, but those in Colorado got more than they bargained for.
A gunman who has been identified as 24-year-old James Holmes of Aurora, opened fire during an early morning screening of the movie, killing 12 people and wounding 38 others.
Holmes opened fire in front of the theater after throwing a smoke bomb (tear gas) while wearing a gas mask. Some moviegoers thought that the smoke was a part of the special effects of the movie, but as gunfire erupted, chaos quickly ensued.
Holmes used at least four different guns to carry out the crime, according to CNN.
My prayers go out to the families of the deceased victims as well as those who were injured during this horrible event. We live in an increasingly dangerous world and should not feel unsafe enjoying a movie with our families and friends.
