Think back to those days on the playground where you and your gal pals formed a circle and played hand games, taught each other new dance moves or spilled the tea on the latest boy drama in the classroom. That feeling of nostalgia is deeply rooted in the sense of girl power that’s innately in us as females.
Now imagine yourself 20+ years later in a fancy venue instead of the playground, in the midst of women of all shades, backgrounds and purpose. The women are sharing their struggles, accomplishments and “how I got here” stories with you. That feeling can best be described as girl power to the hundredth degree and I experienced it at the inaugural stop of the very first She is B.A.E. Summit in Atlanta last weekend.
The She is B.A.E. (Building an Empire) Summit is the brainchild of media personality, LaJanee’ Cosby, and aims to engage the black female entrepreneur, enhance the black female entrepreneur’s current abilities and encourage the Black female entrepreneur on her business journey.
Last Saturday (April 16, 2016) at Gallery 874 in Atlanta, the tour kicked off with public relations expert Aleesha Carter sharing her tips for marketing yourself and your company followed by a panel discussion featuring Marie Denee, Nicole Garner Scott, LaTisha Styles and Danielle Hughes.
Not only did guests receive breakfast (the muffins were ah-may-zing) and lunch, everyone walked away with a workbook packed with entrepreneurship terms and planning sheets to help map out their empires.
What I loved most about this event is that the speakers were so down to earth and that was a great move on LaJanee’s part. Many times you go to these kind of events and you can network with the guests but very seldom are the panelists so inviting and willing to answer your questions “off the stage.” Not only did the She is B.A.E. panelists do that, one even went the extra mile with me and gave me her card and asked that I email her in reference to an event she’s hosting next month. That’s the type of #BlackGirlMagic I want to be around!
She is B.A.E. will be heading to Houston in June and I’d advise all my H-town reader-entrepreneurs to attend! For more information, visit www.sheisbaesummit.com.
