Shaana Worlds Dishes On Her Brand “Shaanah Montana” And Shares Her Journey As An Entrepreneur

With aspirations of having a career in fashion, 28-year-old Shaana Worlds created her own brand – Shaanah Montanna. The Moss Point, Mississippi native and Nashville resident has managed to blur the line between being “street” and being “beautiful” through her ShaanahMontanna Tees.

Check out our interview below.

JESSICASIMIEN.COM: Tell me a little bit about your brand Shannah Montanna and how it got started.
Shaana Worlds: Shaanah Montanna is a brand that represents those that don’t like to color inside the lines; it’s for those that are okay with not being considered the “norm” because they are confident in who they are and the character they represent because they are the best of the best. Shaanah Montanna is a representation of the multifaceted individual that’s able to do “bad boy/bad girl” things in their spare time, yet hold it down in a way where your success is inevitable and you’re able to look good, in my fashion of course, while doing both!

Shaanah Montanna got started as and when I made a decision to embark on a journey into fashion but I was a bit unsure about how to do it or what avenue to take. I knew that I didn’t want to be a fashion designer, per se, but I wanted something more trendy that could cater to the younger and fresher, yet mid to late 20s working demographic. I kept being drawn to t-shirt designs and it may have been because of the struggle one has on a casual day to be cute, and avoid wearing a plain tee or what the masses are wearing, when a good majority of your wardrobe may be business professional attire due to your corporate grind.

So, I did some research and found the site Spreadshirt and was able to dabble into designing my own t-shirts. It was something I genuinely enjoyed and was passionate about and the even more awesome part was that I didn’t have to front my own money for the products!

JESSICASIMIEN.COM: What inspired you to become an entrepreneur?
Shaana Worlds: I was inspired to become an entrepreneur because I feel that there can never be enough girls running the world and through my endeavors I can encourage others, women and men, that if they are willing to endlessly pursue the goals that they have, they too can be successful in any goal or task set before them. Additionally, I recognized that through my own self motivation, determination and perseverance to be successful that I was meant to be an entrepreneur and make rules as I go along. I figured why not use all of those characteristics and more to make my own money, on my terms, and take control of the destiny that has already been designed specifically for me?

JESSICASIMIEN.COM: What has been your greatest challenge while building your brand?
Shaana Worlds: My greatest challenge has been fear. Fear of failure, fear of other people’s opinions, fear of not being good enough, fear of not meeting my own expectations. However, I have found that this is the natural process of success and when I start to have those moments I pray and realize that what God has in store for me is too great to imagine so I can rest easy and assured knowing that I am covered.

JESSICASIMIEN.COM: Who are some of your influences and/or people you look up to in the industry?
Shaana Worlds: My largest influence for about the last year has been Sophia Amoruso, the founder and creator of Nasty Gal clothing line. She is such a ginormous inspiration to me because of the back story of how she started out on a site as simple as Ebay and just climbed her way to the top of a million dollar dynasty by staying consistent, building her own brand, and staying true to the vision she set out with while allowing it to grow as she developed as an entrepreneur as well.

She truly inspires me because I feel that we have the same humble beginnings of making it in this industry and she is one of many proofs that success can be had in this industry if you are willing to overcome fears, obstacles, people, and sometimes yourself in order to achieve what you have put a stake in to be yours! Additionally, Kimora Lee Simmons, Johnny Cupcakes, and Shonda Rhimes are just a few people in fashion and entertainment that inspire and influence me not just because of what they have done for the industry, but because they all started with a very simple plan, not a team of people or a huge strategy, and they wound up successful because they held true to it.

JESSICASIMIEN.COM: What advice do you have for other young people looking to start their own businesses?
Shaana Worlds: Be prepared to work. Then be prepared to work some more. Launching this brand is one of the hardest things that I have ever done in my life and I wouldn’t trade it for the world! Even on those days when I am dog tired, I want to give up, I don’t want to spend any more money, I want to just turn my brain “off”, and climb under the covers in the safe haven of my bed, I don’t. I don’t because I know that I am fulfilling a destiny that is larger than just me and this big ol’ world is waiting for lil ol’ me to make sure this brand continues to prosper so that I can inspire others, just as they have done me!
