Imagine waking up every morning and heading to a job that you hate just to pay the bills. According to a recent survey, it’s the reality for many Americans.
Gallup’s 2013 State of the American Workplace study found that 70% of those surveyed either hate their jobs or are completely disengaged from them. Many respondents indicated that “bosses from hell” who ignored their talent and didn’t give them room to grow were the reason for their disengagement.
As someone who recently left a job that I hated, I can agree that a terrible boss can ruin your morale no matter how much you enjoy what you do. I used to always use the phrase, “I love what I do, but I hate the company I do it for.”
