What some call the greatest sneaker production of 2011, Nike created the Nike MAG, a fictional shoe from Back To The Future Pt. II.
Nike auctioned off the limited number of 1500 pairs on eBay, with all proceeds going to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research. The shoe release generated up to $6 million – even though the shoe was missing a major component.
When McFly wore his pair in the movie, they were equipped with power laces, making them the fliest shoes in the world – no debate necessary. While the 2011 MAGs didn’t have the laces, Nike designer Tinker Hatfield confirmed that a 2015 shoe will.
During an appearance at the Jordan Brand’s Flight Lab space in New Orleans a few days ago, Hatfield was asked about power laces.
“Are we gonna see power laces in 2015? To that, I say YES!”
No word yet on if the power lacing will be on a re-release of the Nike MAG or on another shoe.
