Arizona Cardinals running back Jonathan Dwyer has become the latest NFL player to be caught in controversy.
The 25-year-old five year player was arrested by Phoenix police Wednesday for assaulting his wife and throwing a shoe at their 18-month-old son. Both incidents happened in July at Dwyer’s Phoenix home.
According to NY Daily News, police were called to the home on July 21 after neighbors reported a domestic disturbance. His wife, Kayla, 27, brushed police off but later told them that he was inside the home hiding in a bathroom as and when officers came looking for him.
The next day, Dwyer snatched a cell phone from his wife’s hand and threw it from the second floor of their home to prevent her from calling the cops. He also sent text messages to his wife threatening to harm himself if she reported the incidents.
Dwyer has denied the charges and the Cardinals deactivated him on Wednesday. His wife has since fled the state with their child.
