Have you ever dreamed of writing and publishing your own novel? Now is the time to get started.
Apparently there’s this challenge circulating that encourages professional, amateur and aspiring novelists to write a novel in one month’s time. It immediately piqued my interest because I’ve had a completed novella (shorter version of a novel) on my computer for the past two years that I’ve never published.
So I decided to check it out.
#NaNoWriMo2016 is short for the 2016 edition of National Novel Writing Month. NaNoWriMo is an annual challenge meant to help participants complete a 50,000-word novel by the end of the month and it also operates as a nonprofit organization.
Their website is full of resources to help you accomplish the task and although it seems intense, it’s totally possible if you focus on writing a few pages per day. There is also a library full of prompts and exercises to help you get started and develop your story.
Some of them include:
- 4 Tips to Survive a Writing Marathon
- 5 Secret Steps to Story Building
- Character Profiling
- How to Schedule Time for Writing
I’m going to really try to complete this challenge because I’d love to publish a novel. I’ve wanted to be a professional writer since I was a little girl (I wrote full novels in Mead spiral notebooks back then) and while I’m focusing on relaxing and preparing for motherhood, now is the perfect time. I’m at home now more than ever!
What about you?
Do you think this is something you can do or something you’d want to do?
If so, join me! I’m sure I’ll need an accountability partner and beta reader! You can also follow the hashtag on Twitter to see what the other writers are up to.
