One of my favorite features about my phone is the built in navigation app. I’ve been using it a lot lately since I have a million meetings each week and my colleagues seem to enjoy picking places that I’m not familiar with. The best thing about it is that even if I mistake the visual directions and take a wrong turn, just like any other GPS system, it re-routes me and gets me back on track.
God is a lot like that, wouldn’t you agree?
I can’t even count how many times God has tried to steer me away from a situation and I just refused to take His direction. My refusal and disobedience has caused me to stay in situations that were no good for me and caused me lots of pain, stress and heartache. When I really think about my reason for staying in bad situations or just going against what I knew deep down inside, it was all to avoid something that was gonna happen anyway!
I tried to avoid quitting my full-time office job because I wanted financial “security,” I tried to avoid an inevitable break-up, I kept trying to block my feelings toward someone who I knew was good for me, I tried not to move back to Jackson because I didn’t want to feel like I had failed at moving away and starting an amazing career…but guess what!? All that stuff STILL HAPPENED! And it happened because God re-routed me so that I could continue heading toward a destination that He has for me.
And you wanna know what I’ve learned? I’ve learned to stop getting in God’s (and my own) way!
Since I’ve stopped trying to control a situation, my life has been phenomenal! I promise it has. The happiness I feel on the inside doesn’t even match the smile on my face or delight in my voice as and when someone asks me how I’m doing. I’m working for myself, I am enjoying the companionship of the most amazing man I’ve ever met, I’m back in Jackson connecting with people who all want to see me win…I just have love all over me! Self-love, love from my family and friends and the love that God has for me.
If you are trying to find a shortcut or alternate route than the one your GPS is trying to take you on, stop and consider what you might miss on the way. Don’t go through unnecessary obstacles if your path has already been cleared.
Until next time,
