MUST LISTENS (Bijoux 22)
MUST LISTENS (Rose Gold)
– “Do Me Now”
– “Point Of Impact”
– “Gasping For Air”
Last week I was searching for something different…intellectual rap per se, lyrical content that would blow my mind. I passed up MACHINE GUN KELLY along with others on the come up to listen to Joey BadA$$’ sophomore tape, Summer Knights.
I listened and strained until depression and boredom took over my mind and all I could do to free myself was play inspirational tunes by Smokie Norful. Not to go in depth too much, but I was utterly disappointed and it was like listening to Charlie Brown’s teacher.
“Womp Womp Womp Womp Womp”.
So instead of wasting your time with negativity last week, I decided to wait and put you on something worth listening to. These two tapes are compositions of two R&B artists that have been looked over due to the low demand of R&B and the high demand of Hip-Hop. K. Roosevelt and Elijah Blake are next.
Now these tapes aren’t “new” but their music is slowly arriving. Elijah Blake’s, Bijoux 22 consists of “XOX” featuring Common that regularly plays on VH1 Soul and K. Roosevelt’s Rose Gold consists of “DO ME NOW”, that’s currently blazing on the airwaves nationwide.
Both singers bring articulate fluidity that attracts appreciation for their music. Whether they followed the road of Frank Ocean or the road that rhythm and blues is partaking in, they both bring smooth relevance to the the table making cool listens for the two.
Artist and producer K. Roosevelt is known from working with acts such as BJ The Chicago Kid, Game, Jhené Aiko and Skeme. The EP, Rose Gold, consists of nine tracks featuring guest appearances by Mibbs (of PAC DIV), Surf Club colleague, and HS87’s Hit-Boy (who also provides co-production on Diamonds & Gold”) while Roosevelt handles the production duties himself.
Elijah Blake,22, of Roc Nation is a fresh, multi-talented face in the game and a performer full of soul. There’s not much to say about this cat yet other than he’s far from manufactured. I know he will make a staple in the game. He’s too pure not to.
These two tapes brought life to my bland week – pure sounds always do the trick. I highly recommend you to download these mixtapes if you haven’t already. Good music just does something healthy for the soul.
Until next time,
