Who said dieting was expensive?
Joe “Papa Joe” Aviance, a 42-year-old recording artist and producer, lost 250 pounds by creating a diet plan based off items he purchased from his local 99 cent store. Typically, 99 cent stores have an abundance of toiletries, toys and party supplies but Aviance’s local Los Angeles store has a much wider selection of items, including produce and seafood.
Aviance was inspired to make a lifestyle change after seeing himself in a 2009 music video. He explained to ABC news:
“I said, ‘You know what?’ I’ve got to end this now. I almost had a nervous breakdown. I went to the fridge and threw everything in the trash can. Cookies, candy, cakes, all the sugary items, everything.”
His weight loss plan began with a daily five mile walk and along with his low cost food items from the 99 cent store, he was able to go from 450 pounds to 200 pounds in only 18 months. He is currently on his “Live For Life” tour, visiting cities all over the U.S. to speak about the benefits of a healthy lifestyle.
