Jamie Foxx Criticized For Referring To President Obama As ‘Our Lord And Savior’ – Was He Out Of Line?

Actor, comedian and singer Jamie Foxx is in hot water with conservatives for referring to President Obama as “our Lord and Savior” during the Soul Train Awards. Of course he was making a joke, but some people didn’t find it funny.

Catholic groups are saying that Foxx’s comparison of Obama to Christ is highly inappropriate. The Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights’ United States Official Bill Donohue accused Foxx of insensitivity in a press statement saying:

“Foxx’s epiphany is startling. It just goes to show that even though Obama did not succeed in stopping the oceans from rising (as he promised to do in 2008), he did succeed in convincing Jamie Foxx, and no doubt legions of others, that God exists.”

I think there is a little overreacting going on here. We all know Jamie Foxx is a comedian and comedians make jokes. His statement wasn’t meant to be taken seriously.

Watch the clip of Jamie Foxx’s joke up top.

What do you think? Was Jamie Foxx’s statement inappropriate?
