‘Free State Of Jones’ Based On A True Mississippi Story + Watch Clip

As a Mississippian it’s a little annoying that most, if not all, movies based on my home state involve a slavery or race related story but Free State of Jones sparked my interest for a couple of reasons. The first reason – Matthew McConaughey and the second reason being that I’m actually familiar with Jones County, Mississippi where the film is based.

McConaughey stars in the film as a poor white farmer, Newton “Newt” Knight, who led a rebellion during the Civil War. Knight assembled a group of like-minded people to fight for freedom, equality and the notion that no one owns a child of God.

Check out a clip from the film below.

Looks interesting, right?

The film was released in theaters last week but I’ll be going to check it out this weekend. I’ve seen several reviews of it, most of them positive, so I’m excited about watching it for myself.
