JESSICASIMIEN.COM: Before we get into the details of the film, tell us what inspired you to pursue a career in acting?
Essence Wallace: When I was about seven years old, I had a chance to act in a play at Jim Hill High School because my mother worked there and I just fell in love with it so I kept expressing my interest to my mom. I auditioned for Power APAC when I was going to the seventh grade and I got in and so it just started there.
I just always had an interest in Film and TV so I decided to start traveling and going to classes out of state because nothing was really offered in Jackson, which is why I try to bring so much home because I just feel like it’s so many people who have a desire to work in the industry in Jackson but there’s just not enough opportunity for people. I just want to bring back as much as possible because I don’t feel that God gave me the opportunity to be able to experience some of the things I’ve experienced without helping anyone else.
JESSICASIMIEN.COM: Tell me a little bit about your film, Love Never Fails. What is it about?
EW: It’s about a woman who’s very young, she’s only 22-years-old, and she struggles between choosing the power of love or the power of fear and the story starts off where she is working in the corporate life and she has everything that she needs based on the world’s viewpoint. But, everything that she does is done out of doubt and fear.
She has a dream to be an actress and she kinda drops everything to do what she loves. In the end we see how love has is able to conquer all of the fears she has and she ends up being really successful.
JESSICASIMIEN.COM: So Love Never Fails is not actually about a relationship?
EW: No, it’s actually about the love of God and it’s really based on what the Bible says love is and the Bible says that God is love. So the message that we are trying to give to our audience is that if we seek God and we seek the love that He has for us then it’ll lead us to our destiny and we’ll be successful in ways that we never imagined we could be.
JESSICASIMIEN.COM: I know that you don’t like to call the film a Christian film, although it is about God’s love. Can you explain why you choose not to call it a Christian film?
EW: Sure, I actually am reading a book that’s called How to Succeed in Hollywood (Without Losing Your Soul) and it talks about how Christians have started to label all of their work as Christian work so those that have not given their life to Christ are automatically repelled from it because it sends the message that its only for Christians instead of it being a Christian producing work that is for everyone. I feel like if we call it a Christian film then the message won’t get to the people who need it the most.
