Dontellis “Boone” Bullock is the creator of Boone Flyy clothing and one of Mississippi’s emerging clothing designers. We got an opportunity to chat with him for Mississippi Month and talk about his inspiration for his line and what he does to set himself apart from all the other clothing designers of the world.
Check out our interview below.
JESSICASIMIEN.COM: First, tell us exactly how you got into designing.
Boone: I sort of fell into design. I’ve always had a very innovative and unique taste and style as and when it came to clothing. I used to get a lot of compliments on how different my taste was and how I always managed to stand out. Based upon this, it was sort of a natural transition, to share this individuality with the rest of the world. The older I became, the more I looked around and noticed how everyone seemed to dress very similarly, making it hard to notice any individuality at all, while I always have been to stand out on my style alone. I believe that my line is new, innovative, and definitely outside the box and that’s not only what I believe consumers are looking for, but it’s something that we all need.
JESSICASIMIEN.COM: How did you come up with the name of your line?
Boone: Boone Flyy is based ironically on my nickname, Boone. As a toddler, Boone was the first word that I ever said and it instantly became my nickname amongst my family. Needless to say , the nickname stuck. Boone Flyy is aptly named because it’s as unique a name as its designs. The line basically based off my individual style and uniqueness and Boone Flyy is a nice, subtle way of seeing the style displayed on the consumers who purchase it.
JESSICASIMIEN.COM: What does your line consist of?
Boone: Boone Flyy is for everyone. We have clothing for children, adolescents, and adults as well. With the different age groups, comes different styles and Boone Flyy can be worn for any and every occasion. We have clothing that exhibits a unique urban style, with t-shirts, sweatshirts, and so on, yet Boone Flyy can also provide a more casual and professional look with polos, jackets, and button down shirts and slacks. We also have children and women’s lines which incorporate both urban and professional styles as well.
JESSICASIMIEN.COM: What or who is your inspiration when coming up with design concepts and just being a clothing designer period?
Boone: Fashion has always been a passion of mine. My mother, however, would have to be my biggest inspiration. We were never the richest, but she always taught us the importance of our appearance. Despite the destitution, she always had us more than presentable and hopefully Boone Flyy can inspire others to not only maintain a great appearance but to also exhibit their own individuality.
JESSICASIMIEN.COM: As you know there are so many clothing lines out. What do you do to stand out from the other lines?
Boone: Boone Flyy is different because unlike other brands it doesn’t cater to just one particular group. Boone Flyy was designed for and is truly intended for everyone. Every design is unique and comes from my brain, and is definitely one of a kind. No matter the occasion Boone Flyy clothing can be incorporated.
JESSICASIMIEN.COM: Where can we go to find and purchase your clothing?
Boone: You can view all the Boone Flyy from my Instagram and/or Facebook page. I am currently constructing my website which hopefully will be available by 2015.
