I always talk to my little sister about my blogging goals and after getting some honest advice and feedback from her, I’m trying to glam myself up whenever I film YouTube videos and attend events.
Since birth I’ve been the ultimate girly-girl. I love makeup, nail polish, switching up my hair and all that jazz. When it comes to makeup though, I don’t feel the need nor do I like to be made up like a Barbie doll everyday. I like natural, sun-kissed makeup looks that look amazing in person but not so great on camera. Now that I’ve changed the style of this website and I’m gearing up to do things that will inevitably put me in the spotlight, I have to be extremely aware of how I present myself.
Now…my pockets haven’t graduated to spending hundreds of dollars at a makeup counter yet and I want to be relatable to you all. So, I went on a drugstore makeup haul to add some different products to my makeup bag in the hopes of becoming less basic and more glamorous! Yassss! LOL
I don’t know if I purchased enough products for this to be considered a haul, but here’s what I bought:
1. Revlon ColorStay Foundation in Caramel
I really wanted to go back to liquid foundation and I also wanted to try a new drugstore brand. I was lurking @jomichelleartistry‘s Instagram page and saw that she uses Revlon foundation so I decided to try it in the same color and so far, I really like it. It’s an exact match to my skin and it smells really good.
2. e.l.f. Waterproof Lengthening & Voluminizing Mascara
I’m not very picky about mascara because I have naturally long eyelashes. I grabbed this because it was cheap and I knew that I’d be wearing false lashes for the videos and wouldn’t need any “magic” mascara.
3. e.l.f. Cover Up Concealer in Light
I’ve worn this concealer before and I really like it. It’s the right consistency and I can use it to highlight as well.
4. Black Radiance Pressed Powder in Ebony
This is another product purchase inspired by @jomichelleartistry. I use this strictly for contouring and so far, so good.
5. NK Lip Liner in Nude
I wanted a nude lip liner that would hide the natural dark lines and edges of my lips. This does the job perfectly! (P.S. I got this in a local beauty supply store, not a drugstore.)
6. Ardell Natural Lashes in 120 Demi and 116
I purchased these from Sally’s and the only reason I picked these particular styles is because they were the least dramatic. I haven’t tried the 120 yet, but I did try the 116 and they are much longer than I thought they would be. I ended up taking them off while I was in the car en route to a meeting. They just looked to spidery for me LOL. I’ll probably try them again because I was rushing to apply them and maybe I didn’t do a good job.
7. e.l.f. Natural Lash Kit
I didn’t really like these lashes, for some reason they were difficult for me to apply. Again this could’ve been just me not doing a good job so I won’t blame it on the lashes.
8. Ardell LashGrip For Strip Lashes in Transparent
I like this glue but it takes a really long time for it to actually dry transparently. It goes on white and stays that way until it completely dries. My lashes feel secure though, so no other complaints!
9. Nail Buffer
I also purchased this from Sally’s because I really needed one…no other reason LOL.
10. Face Secrets Blending Sponge
I had one of these before but threw it away because I felt like it didn’t do anything for me. I’ve seen it in every YouTube makeup video I’ve watched recently so I decided to try it again. Still didn’t like it. Then, I watched a video by one of my favorite YouTubers and realized that I’ve been using it wrong! Why didn’t anyone tell me I should’ve been wetting it first? LOL
11. e.l.f. Mist and Setting Spray in Clear
I really like makeup mists and decided to go with this one over the NYX version simply because it was like $7 cheaper (I’m frugal, ya’ll). I like it, it does the trick. I’m thinking that I’ll probably go ahead and try the NYX one next because they have one that leaves a matte finish. I’m crazy about matte!
12. NYX Wonder Stick (Highlight and Contour Stick) in Universal Color
I absolutely hated this. The color is not universal and it just looked like shiny, cheap stuff all over my face. I returned it and got my $12 back.
13. e.l.f. High Definition Powder in Sheer
I got this powder because I needed a translucent powder to use for my videos. This takes away the shininess and can be used at home. I use mattifying blotting papers from Sephora on the go and this powder is just as effective, if not more.
14. Ambi Fade Cream for Oily Skin
I’ve been having a very bad breakout and I thought it would go away on its own but yeah…that’s not happening. I’ve used Ambi’s Fade Cream before and I liked the way my face evened out so I decided to go back to it to get rid of the dark scars from my breakout. This time around I got the oily skin version because every morning I wake up my face is so oily it’s ridiculous.
15. Equate Deep Cleaning Astringent for Sensitive Skin
My sister recommended that I get some astringent to treat my breakout and this stuff started working immediately! I love it and it smells good too. I got the sensitive skin version simply because I don’t know whats going on with my skin these days because it’s starting to react differently to certain products.
I forgot to include a pink e.l.f. lipstick I picked up and the makeup removing/wet cleansing towelettes that I purchased from Walmart, you get two packs of 72 for only $5.97 or something like that. I love love love these!
That’s it for my haul folks. Do you use any of these products? Share your opinions of them in the comment section.
