This week as I prepare for my first out of town blogging gig, I’m humbled to have even been considered for the job. Out of all the bloggers in Atlanta, I was chosen to be the official blogger for the STRONG Conference this weekend. Little ole Jessica Simien from Jackson, Mississippi….me.
I had this same feeling when I was granted access to last week’s concert to benefit the campaign for labor rights for Nissan workers in Canton. I didn’t earn that access because I work for a news station or newspaper owned by a major corporation. I earned that access because I had a dream to start my own media outlet and I acted on it.
My actions led me to have my dream of being a media personality come true. What dreams do you have?
Deep inside of us, there is a burning desire to do something. It doesn’t necessarily have to be a “big” thing, it can be something very small. Whatever it is, start taking the steps to make that desire be fulfilled. The feeling you’ll have will be worth every moment.
Along the way there will be naysayers and people who don’t believe in you, but they are not important. What’s important is that you hold fast to your dreams, protect them and do whatever it takes to make them happen.
My gig with the conference may be something small in another person’s eyes, but for me it’s confirmation that God hears my prayers, sees my hustle and is helping me live the life I dream of at night. Not a life full of material things, but a life that is full of happiness because I get to wake up and do what I love everyday.
Now that’s a dream come true!
