Christy Luckett, Owner of Bishie Chrissi Boutique Dishes On Being Her Own Boss And Making Her Dreams Come True

Becoming a boutique owner was her dream as a young girl and in August 2011 that dream came true. We got a chance to chat with Christy Luckett, the owner of Bishie Chrissi Boutique about how she got started and what it’s like being her own boss.

JS: Can you tell us a little bit about yourself, like where you went to school and what part of Mississippi you’re from?

BC: My name is Christy Luckett, I’m 33-years-old and I grew up in Canton.  I attended Belhaven University (formerly Belhaven College).

JS: What inspired you to open your own boutique and how long have you been in business?

BC: I opened my store up in August 2011 in my hometown of Canton, Mississippi. I’ve always loved fashion and owning my own store was a childhood dream of mine.

JS: Well, that dream has definitely come true! As a lover of fashion, how would you describe your personal style?

BC: I love vintage fashion. My personal style tends to be very trendy and classy.

JS: I’ve always wondered how you came up with your boutique name, how did that happen?

BC: [laughing] It was my Twitter name, there’s no special meaning.

JS: Many young women dream of owning their own boutique and becoming their own boss. Can you tell us a little about your typical day?

BC: I’m also currently employed as a personal/housing assistant for a family. I’ve worked for them over a year. I refuse to leave them because their home is almost like mine. I’m also a single mom to a 10-year-old boy. My day starts around 6 a.m. and normally ends around 11 p.m. I prepare my son for school, I work, run errands, manage my boutique and home and a million more things! I really don’t have much of a personal life.

JS: So, whats the most rewarding thing about being your own boss?

BC: I love that I can create my own rules and schedule. It is also very rewarding to be able to hire people that need employment.
