An Asiana Airlines flight from Seoul, South Korea crashed while landing at San Francisco’s airport Saturday, killing two people and injuring 168 others.
There were 307 total people on board Asiana Flight 214, including 16 crew members. According to reports, 123 people were able to escape without any injuries and 181 were hospitalized and treated for minor injuries, abrasions and fractures.
The two victims of the crash, Ye Meng Yuan and Wang Li Jia, were both 16-year-old high school sophomores who were headed to San Francisco for a summer exchange program. Ye and Wang were the only two fatalities of the crash. The two were seated in the rear of the plane and were ejected when the tail section separated on impact. One of the girls may have survived the crash, only to be run over by emergency equipment rushing to the scene.
The cause of the crash has not yet been determined but officials have ruled out terrorism.
