Angela Bassett will be directing a TV film called Whitney Houston that will air on Lifetime in 2015. This marks Bassett’s directorial debut.
The film is set to cover the late singer’s life including her rise to fame as well as her tumultuous relationship with ex-husband, Bobby Brown. After Houston passed away in 2012, Lifetime aired a documentary series that followed the lives of Houston’s family.
Bassett and Houston worked together on the classic film, Waiting To Exhale, and Bassett said that she feels a responsibility to tell Whitney’s story. In a statement she said:
“I have such regard for both Whitney’s and Bobby’s amazing talents and accomplishments, and I feel a responsibility in the telling of their story. Their humanity and bond fascinates us all. I’m beyond excited to have this opportunity to go behind the camera and into their world.”
I’m interested to see who will be cast as Whitney for the film but I’ll definitely be watching!
