Jay-Z is the ultimate businessman.
Roc Nation announced yesterday that it had signed a partnership deal with Creative Artists Agency (CAA) to move into sports management through their new division, Roc Nation Sports.
The first athlete to be signed to the Roc Nation Sports roster is Major League Baseball player Robinson Cano of the New York Yankees. Cano has spent his entire professional career with the Yankees and is in his last year of a $57 million contract, according to ESPN. Cano will be co-managed by Roc Nation Sports and the CAA.
In a statement discussing his new venture, Jay-Z revealed why he wanted to get into sports management:
“Because of my love of sports, it was a natural progression to form a company where we can help top athletes in various sports the same way we have been helping artists in the music industry for years.”
Roc Nation Sports will be co-headed by Jay-Z and Roc Nation president Juan Perez.
