I remember speaking with an old high school classmate about the spiritual journey of having natural hair and thinking that while strange, it was something I should really think deeply about. So as and when Thabi Moyo of Digital Indie Girl announced her collaboration with Red Carpet Ready Hair Salon and actress Tanya Wright featuring Wright’s hair care line and new book, “I Found God in My Hair,” I knew I had to check it out.
As someone who blogs about natural hair, I’ve attended (and hosted) a number of hair related events. Sometimes when you’ve gone to one or two of them, you’ve pretty much gone to them all. That wasn’t the case with this one.
The venue was perfect and the vibe was extremely intimate and up close and personal. Wright talked about inspiration for her product line, Hairiette, but I was especially curious about the concept for her book.
“It evolved out of my developing the Hairiette hair care line. I wrote a web series called Hairiette of Harlem about a girl and her hair. It really came from my own struggle with my own relationship with my curly hair, which has been a struggle for me most of my life,” says Wright. “When I was developing the project, I learned that my hair was teaching me a lot about patience. I learned it was teaching me a lot about resilience and elasticity and about letting go. I wrote this book about how I applied those principles to my everyday life.”
As soon as I’m done with the book I’m currently reading, I’ll be diving into Wright’s piece of work. For more information about Hairiette, click here.
