It’s not fair how some people can eat whatever they want without gaining a pound, while some of us on the other hand seem to gain at the smell of food. It’s all about metabolism!

Some people have higher metabolism rates than others. A portion of your metabolism rate is inherited through genes and your rate also declines as you age. Genes only account for a small percentage and the rest is left up to you! First things first: metabolism is the where proteins, carbohydrates, and fats are broken down to yield the energy your body needs to maintain itself. Genes play a role in your metabolism rate, but remember it is not the final factor!

Don’t skip out on breakfast
Breakfast jump-starts your metabolism after resting overnight.

Eat foods high in protein
Protein is digested slower than carbs and fat and it also makes you feel fuller longer.

Exercise
Get your blood flowing and your heart rate up with a 30 minute high-intensity exercise.

Gain some muscle
Gain about 5 to 10 pounds of muscle mass.

Burn baby burn
Its called the after burn. Your body burns more calories than it normally would – yes even after exercise! Working out often and harder increases your burn.

A little H2O always does the body good. Your body also burns more calories in colder temperatures.

Snack attack
Eat a snack every 2 to 3 hours. A Healthy snack that is! This starves your fat and feeds the muscles. Skipping meals and eating a large amount for dinner is never good, the body then begins to store fat that way.

Sleep
Your body needs to recover and restore from the days activities. Your body needs about 7 to 8 hours of adequate sleep.
