Let’s face it; all successful people have goals. It’s what drives them to achieve the things they want out of life. If you’re starting a career or have already established one, what are your career goals?

You might be reading this because you don’t feel like you’re progressing to your goals. Or you might be wondering what new challenges you should set yourself. Either way, it’s clear that you need some help with your career goals.

Today I would like to share with you five career goals that anyone can achieve. Even you! The following objectives can represent milestones and achievements in your life. Not just for your career, but for personal development reasons too.

Be a better employee

It doesn’t matter what job you do, or who your employer is. What does matter is that you can be the best at what you do. There are two reasons why this is important. First of all, it gives you a sense of self-achievement and self-worth.

And, second, your hard work will get recognized by your employer. That’s because they measure your performance against KPIs. In case you wondered, KPI stands for Key Performance Indicator – a metric of how you’re doing.

Keep your resume fresh and up-to-date

You might not think that updating your resume is much of a career goal, but it is; let me explain! Your resume is to you what a business plan is to an established company.

It’s a record of your professional history and achievements. Whenever you achieve a new skill and get qualified for it, you should record those details. If you ever want to move to a new company, your resume will be fresh and up-to-date.

You might not think it, but many people forget to update their resumes with new achievements!

Apply for management roles

Another reason to keep your resume up-to-date is for as and when you wish to apply for management jobs at work. Even though you already work for the firm, you may still need to submit a resume with your application.

Is your resume style and structure the best it could be? If it isn’t, it might be worth hiring a resume writer to improve it for you. That way, you’ll give yourself the best chance of getting the job!

Quit your job and start a business

One ambitious yet achievable goal is to work for yourself. Many people take the plunge and report a happy and successful outcome. Starting a business is one of the most exciting challenges you’ll face in your life.

When I started to work for myself, I was a little nervous at first. After all; you no longer have a “guaranteed” income! But, this only drives you to be the best and ooze confidence. When you do that, you will grow your business. After all; your clients will only spend money with you if you’re confident and good at what you do!

Get qualified

Some folks might think that getting a degree or a qualification is “just a piece of paper.”

The thing is; qualifications are a sign of professionalism and skill. They are a metric that one can use to determine if you’re an expert or a newbie. Yes, qualifications should be one of your career goals. But, they should also get used as recognition of your professional standards.
