16-Year-Old Girl Gets ‘Magna Carta Holy Grail’ Production Credit

Ebony Oshurinde (AKA WondaGurl)

Not very many teenagers can say that they produced a beat for Jay-Z, but Ebony Oshunrinde can.

The 16-year-old beat maker who goes by the name WondaGurl produced Jay-Z’s Magna Carta Holy Grail track “Crown.” When the album became available to Samsung Galaxy users on July 4, WondaGurl says that her life changed.

Oshunrinde began making beats at age nine before she caught the attention of another producer, Boi 1da, who took her under his wing and helped her win the 2012 Battle of the Beatmakers competition. Oshunrinde recalls the moment she found out her beat landed in Jay-Z’s hands:

“I made a beat and sent it to Travi$ Scott and he said he was gonna do some stuff with it. A few days later he texted me and said he was about to change my life but he wouldn’t tell me what he was talking about. Then he called me and told me I was officially on Jay-Z’s album.”

Magna Carta Holy Grail was released Sunday, July 7.
