It seems like the older I get, the longer it takes for me to fully get into the Christmas spirit. The world seems to kick off the Christmas holiday immediately after Thanksgiving but I’m usually not into the spirit until the week/week and a half prior to the actual holiday.
Besides the cold weather, hot chocolate and Christmas movies on TV, something that always seems to do the trick is listening to Christmas music. You seriously cannot fail with that.
So if you need a little push to get into the spirit, check out the songs below.
“All I Want For Christmas Is You” – Mariah Carey
With over 230 Million views on YouTube, Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas Is You” is the must-listen song for the Christmas holiday.
“This Christmas” – Donny Hathaway
I can’t recall one Christmas in my life and I didn’t hear this song. I’ve seriously heard this song every year for as long as I can remember. My holiday isn’t complete without this one.
“Silent Night” – The Temptations
I LOVE this song, especially how it begins. If you’re into soulful music you’ll love this Christmas classic from the legendary group, The Temptations.
“Let It Snow” – Boyz II Men & Brian McKnight
This is another soulful Christmas track from some very well-known male vocalists. It’s also one of my favorites because it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy on the inside whenever I hear it.
“12 Days of Christmas” – Destiny’s Child
This song is by Destiny’s Child so you know it’s a good one.
“O Holy Night” – Christina Aguilera
Christina Aguilera’s Christmas album was one of the first (if not only) Christmas albums I’ve ever purchased. Actually I think my Dad got this one for me but anyway, all the songs are incredible but this is one of my favorites.
“Santa Baby” – Eartha Kitt
I actually like any version of this song but for the sake of this list, I included the original version.
“Baby It’s Cold Outside “- Jessica Simpson & Nick Lachey
Ok, I’ll admit that Jessica Simpson isn’t the best singer in the world but one year I worked retail during the Christmas season and I heard this song so much that I eventually came to love it.
“Give Love on Christmas Day” – Jackson 5
This song appeared on the Jackson 5’s 1970 Christmas album. Who can resist little Michael’s voice?
“Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays” – NSYNC
This is another one of those Christmas songs that I would hear all the time when I had a seasonal retail job. It’s borderline corny but it makes me want to dance and get on my family’s nerves LOL.
“Do You Hear What I Hear” – Whitney Houston
No playlist is complete without the queen, Whitney Houston. Her timeless voice is sure to put you in the spirit.
“Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” – Luther Vandross
And we’re closing the list with another timeless voice – Luther Vandross. This song definitely brings out the mushy side of me.
I hope these songs help you get into the spirit and truly feel what the real meaning of this holiday is. Merry Christmas!
