Task 47: Hire my first JessicaSimien.com employee
Task 99: Hire one of my past interns
When I started the JessicaSimien.com internship program, I had no idea how it was going to work. All I knew was that I needed to start building a team and I wanted to give students opportunities that I did not have during my undergraduate college career.
After the first group of interns (Spring 2013), I decided that in order for anyone to be paid by me to complete work for my business, they had to go through the internship process first. It’s my extended interview for them. Right from the start, Arial was a stand out.
She didn’t stand out because she had an extensive knowledge of blogging and public relations. In fact, she doesn’t have any knowledge of either! She stood out (and continues to stand out) because of her desire to learn and soak up everything she can to be successful. She takes initiative, she’s super creative and I never have to question whether or not she’s loyal to my business. I don’t worry about her discussing my business with outsiders or spreading negativity about me. She earned my trust and that in itself impressed me.
So, I took a leap of faith and listened to my spirit and decided to hire her as my Assistant and the Business Manager of JessicaSimien.com. I have no doubts about her ability to carry out the responsibilities of these new positions.
I’m thankful to have her as a part of the team.
